Lack of productivity, absenteeism, loss of focus; HR and managers around the globe will all, at some time or another, have to deal with the challenges of disengaged employees.

According to Gallup Europe (analytics and advice), the UK and western Europe have the lowest employee engagement, with stress one of the leading factors. Of course, as a business, you’ll want to do what you can to boost and support your team’s morale, but it can be hard to know where to start to help reignite that spark.

#1. Are you listening?

Don’t speak; just listen. When was the last time you checked in with your employees? There must be a safe and open space to discuss their work, workplace issues, and company culture. This could be regular and informal chats with HR or a manager or even a regular employee engagement survey? Check the pulse of your workplace, how is everyone feeling?, Encourage and promote openness and honesty and take time to tune in and hear what’s said.

#2. Workplace wellbeing

Disengagement can often be a sign of other issues. Stress, burnout, mental health illness or problems, too much expectation, and even workplace or personal conflict can contribute to poor workplace wellbeing. If you’ve noticed a change within your team or with individuals, it’s essential to get to the root cause and understand why. According to the most recent government survey, mental health issues, including those attributed to within the workplace, account for 15 million sick days per year.

Take a look at how you, as a business, can support the wellbeing of your employees. Sometimes, the most straightforward measures are the most effective, from designated mental health first aiders to encouraging lunch breaks and reinforcing appreciation.

#3. Employee appreciation

Speaking of appreciation, a recent survey found that 80% of people considering leaving their job were doing so due to a lack of appreciation and connection within the company culture —and not down to salary! So gratitude for work well done can go a very long way.

Whether it’s for continuous hard work, a successful project or simply because it’s a birthday or cause for celebration, look at ways to reward your employees. A well-thought-out Swag Pack is just the ticket and can help to reignite that team spirit.

#4. Are they sitting comfortably?

And yes, we mean this physically and metaphorically. Do they have everything they need to carry out their job? — especially with so many employees now working from home or adopting a hybrid working routine.

First, consider the basics such as desk space, a supportive chair, the right light, the essence of everyday workplace comfort. Then look to stretch beyond the physical aids and consider things such as a team subscription to a wellbeing app, like Headspace, a Swag Pack full of treats to encourage them to take time out for themselves, or something as simple as ensuring that they’re taking their total holiday allowance.

Listening, appreciation, workplace wellbeing, and day-to-day comfort can go a long way to helping you reignite that spark and give your team the boost they need. Speak to us today to find out how Swag Pack can help you.
