A Day in the Life: Erin O’Brien, Account Manager

Erin joined Swagpack in January, swapping one corner of the branded merchandise world for another. She’s spent years in the industry, so she knows her way around a product catalogue – but now she’s getting to focus on the bit she loves most: chatting to clients and coming up with ideas that make them happy. When she’s not learning the ropes or introducing herself to her new client list, you’ll probably find her planning her next adventure to somewhere with a good view and a decent walking trail.

What does an average day look like for you?

I’m still working through introductions with clients, but I’m also getting stuck into projects now. It feels like things have clicked into place – the training is nearly done, and I’m in the full swing of quoting and placing orders. It’s good to feel like you’re contributing rather than just finding your feet.

What do you enjoy most about being at Swagpack?

Everyone’s been so lovely. It makes such a difference when you’re starting somewhere new and people are easy to talk to.

From the work side, I love the creative bit – when a client comes to you with a brief and you get to come up with ideas for them. And there’s something brilliant about this industry: you see a project go from an initial conversation to something you can hold in your hands. That never gets boring.

What inspires you about branding, print and design?

It’s seeing the project come to life. From that first brief and quote, all the way through to having the final product in your hand – there’s something satisfying about that whole journey. You’ve been involved from the very beginning, and then suddenly it’s real. That’s the bit I find exciting.

Are there any trends changing the industry?

Sustainability is a big one. So many suppliers are focusing on it now – recycled materials, more responsible processes. What I find interesting is that sustainable products don’t look “eco-friendly” anymore. Before, you could always tell. Now they blend in with everything else. You can’t spot the difference, which feels like progress.

Have you had a chance to look at Swagpack’s previous work?

I’ve had a good look through, and the client portal is brilliant – seeing all the pack visuals together. It’s really nice to see how everything comes together as a finished piece.

What’s the most challenging aspect of your role?

Getting to know all the clients! Each one has their own preferences and history, so it’s about working through that list and building those relationships from scratch. That’s my main focus right now.

What do you get up to outside of work?

I’m outdoorsy. I love spontaneous day trips, exploring new places, hiking, camping – anything that gets me outside.

We’re planning to do Snowdon this year, probably around April when it warms up a bit. A few weeks back, we went to Wales and did a waterfall hike – about five or six miles. The roads were a bit dodgy getting there, all icy, but it was beautiful. Still packed with people even in January, which tells you something.
